Keep the Faith, Mytholmroyd’s very own monthly Soul Club is delighted to welcome resident DJs Ken Miller, Bob Smith and John
Roche to the centre. All veterans of the Northern Soul scene, they are
strictly vinyl and will be spinning all the best tunes from Motown,
Northern Soul and Philly to modern.
With a 200-capacity hall and a
fantastic dance floor it’s the perfect venue for a new soul club. Our
fully-stocked bar also boasts local craft beers from Nightjar and
Vocation Breweries. Keep the Faith, 4-8pm, Sunday 17th November then 3-8pm every third Sunday of the month. Tickets £5 on the door.
Next up is Grain Electric, an Evening of Country and Americana on 2nd November.
Songwriters Jamie Fildes and Stuart Warburton, of former Rhythmaires
fame, front this rootsy four-piece band delivering a blend of country,
bluegrass and acoustic roots. With sublime vocal harmonies and
blistering performances this is one not to be missed. According to
Americana UK ‘You’ll be hard pushed to find a better example of British
Americana.’ Support comes from talented new soloist Christian Fildes.
Grain Electric: An Evening of Country and Americana, 7.30-11.30pm, Saturday 2nd November, tickets £7 on the door.
Friday 22nd November sees our first trip back in time with Night Fever: Back to the 70s.
This will be an evening of non-stop dancing – think The Loft, New York
City and Glam Rock! Vinyl, once again, expect all your favourites from T
Rex and Bowie to Chic and the Bee Gees and Donna Summer to Billy Ocean.
Dress to Impress!
Night Fever: Back to the 70s, 7.30-11.30pm, Friday 22nd November, tickets £5 on the door.
From one extreme to another, 23rd November sees Punk Night: Vol 2.
Another
great production from Task Force Records, organised by local band the
Masochists. Motive, Sordid Vision, Mother Nature and Calderdale’s very
own peace punks the Masochists will be performing live at this MCC
fundraiser. Expect energy, noise and blistering performances! Punk Night: Vol 2, 7-11.30pm, Saturday 23rd November, tickets £10 on the door.
We’re pinching ourselves and can hardly believe that Echoes of the Bunnymen’s first trip into Yorkshire will be to Mytholmroyd Community &
Leisure Centre. This band have been selling out venues across the UK and
recently supported the Doors Live at Liverpool’s O2 Academy.
An Aural
Tribute to the alternative Fab Four, the band has been hailed by
original Bunnyman Will Sergeant as ‘a bloody good tribute band’.
Sergeant turned up to their first gig in Preston and since then they
haven’t looked back. Catch them while you can, these guys are destined
for greatness! Supported by local combo Warm Parts, a Calder Valley
psychedelic noise experience not to be missed.
Echoes of the Bunnymen, 7.30-11.30pm, Friday 29th November, Tickets £10 advanced at skiddle.com or £14 on the door.
Finally, it’s true, Elvis will be entering the building on New Year’s Eve! The one and only Darren Lee will be performing live and letting the new year in with a bang. DJ Stu will be making sure there’s a full dance floor and welcome drinks, midnight fizz and fantastic grazing platters will ensure you get 2025 off to a fantastic start. Tickets on sale soon!
This month we’re challenging you to try and improve your balance, using the Bosu. Benefits of this piece of equipment include improving stability, coordination, balance, flexibility and cardiovascular fitness.
To
balance on the Bosu place it flat side down next to a wall, place one
foot in the middle and lift the other foot up, coming into a one leg
balance.
Brace your core muscles and keep your chest lifted. Hold the
balance for as long as possible. Try both legs to see if there is a
difference. You can keep track of your times or let Chandi or Helen know
if you want to go on the white board.
In
the last newsletter we showed you pictures of the roof repair over the
squash court-end of the building that was completed before the summer.
The next stage was to build the Spin Studio converting one of two squash
courts, so we’ll still be able to offer squash in the first court. The
plan was to add a roof to the room, a new entrance area and knock
through the walls to the storage room to create as much space as
possible. The floor has been levelled and wiring added for the new
air-handling system.
A
lot of the heavy, dirty work has now been completed and over the next
few weeks the room will start to really take shape, with a full paint
job, new hard-wearing flooring, air-handling system and funky lighting
system installed. The aim is to have it completed by end of October.
Watch this space!!
